Enhancing the customer journey at British Airways i360

A queue management specialist has taken its world-class retractable barriers to new heights by supplying British Airways i360.

Tensator has provided 100 marine-grade Tensabarriers® to the recently opened observation attraction in Brighton, which rises to 138m above sea level.

Marine-grade steel was required due to the attraction’s location on the seafront, where the barriers will be exposed to the elements and need protection against weather conditions and corrosion.

With each flight carrying up to 200 passengers at a time, the barriers have been installed to provide robust queue management for a leisure destination predicted to attract 700,000 visitors each year.

British Airways i360 is the world’s tallest moving observation tower, and holds the Guinness World Record for the world’s most slender tower, with a diameter of just 3.9m at its widest point.

Raj Birdi, the project manager from Tensator said: “It’s really exciting to be a part of a project which is getting attention on a global stage, but the inevitable visitor queues will need to be managed appropriately.

“With experience working with international airports and railway stations across the world, we’re used to ensuring some of the busiest public places and attractions have a positive customer journey from arrival through to departure.”

A British Airways i360 spokesperson said: “Given that thousands of customers visit our new attraction in Brighton, it is important we make sure queues are carefully managed throughout the experience.”
